So, this event seems pretty awesome. Busting the Newbie Blues is hosted at Small Review.
This event is designed to:
- Put new YA book bloggers on the map
- Increase blogger interaction
- Start a discussion by sharing our experiences as a new bloggers
- Learn about what it was like for all those impressive established bloggers when they were newbies
So how does this work? Simple:
- Select the questionnaire that best applies to you (there's no "wrong" choice, so just pick whichever one you feel most comfortable answering)
- Create a post on your blog with the questions and your answers
- Grab the banner above or the button below to include in your post or sidebar
- Link back to Small Review
- Sign the Mr. Linky below so we can all come and visit your post!
- Spread the word!
- When did you start your blog? October 2010
- Why did you start your blog? I somehow got into reading blogs over the summer and I thought, "I love books, too. Maybe people would want to hear what I have to say." I love talking about books and I thought that having a blog would let me meet people that love to read as much as I do. I'm not disappointed.
- What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far? The biggest challenge I have found is not using the blog as a journal. I don't want it to be all about reviews but I don't want to rant either. I'm still working on finding the happy medium.
- What do you find most discouraging about being a new blogger? Spending a lot of time working on posts and reading books and knowing that not many people are going to read it. I try not to get discouraged. Its like teaching, if I can reach one person I think I did alright.
- What do you find most encouraging? Getting meaningful comments from bloggers that I know are well established. It makes me feel special
- What do you like best about the blogs you read? Have you tried to replicate this in your blog? I just like how everyone is different and tries to do their own thing. No one tries to be just like anyone else and I like the honesty in that. I try to be honest and fair in my reviews.
- What do you dislike about blogs you’ve read? Do you try to avoid this? I don't know. I respect most of the bloggers whose stuff I read because I know the effort they put into it. I try to avoid ranting and being unfair in my reviews.
- Any advice for other new bloggers? Keep going. People won't read your stuff if you stop writing it.
- Anything else you’d like to share about your experience? This is so much more fun than I expected. The YA community is so awesome and I'm really grateful to be a part of it now.
- Is there anything you’d like to tell us about your blog? Starting in January, I'll probably shift a little in my focus as I go into student teaching which should make for interesting material. But I'll still be reading and reviewing so don't lose faith.
Hello fellow new blogger, I'm also your newest follower. You're right about feeling down when you try to put up great content but no one seems interested. But we keep doing it because we love it, and in time, they will come to us.
ReplyDeleteI hope we can share great reviews in the future!

Hi there. Great answers! I am glad you wrote what you did for number 4. It is disheartening to spend time writing a review for nobody to read it isn't it. People do visit and read though (I found out through my blog stats) but don't always comment.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking your blog :) *following*
Thanks so much for participating! I hope you're having fun. :)
ReplyDeleteI think you have a great approach to blogging. I've also had trouble with keeping a balance in my blog. On one hand I want it to be about reviews, but on the other it is inevitably going to be about me as well. Finding that balance between the two is key.
I look forward to poking around your blog more!
Great start for you I see you already have 29 followers - cool!
ReplyDeleteWell hello! Nice to have found you! I love your answers, espcially #6 and #7. I agree, it's important to be honest in reviews without being unfair and mean.
